About Us
Vancouver Comets Netball Association is a not-for-profit society dedicated to growing netball in Vancouver, British Columbia. Our mission statement is to provide opportunities for all people to play netball in a welcoming and social environment, emphasis on the social!
Members mostly consist of ex-pats from England, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. We're all about creating an environment for Vancouver newbies to come and grow their social circle, whether that's through netball or the many social events we host throughout the year. We're never short of laughs, on and off the court, and are really all about having fun by sharing a sport that we all love!
In addition to the recreational netball we play at drop-in, we regularly compete in tournaments around North America. As well as annual competitions in Seattle, Los Angeles and Whistler, we enter the Netball America US Open every year, where previous host cities included Las Vegas, Orlando, Dallas, Miami and New Orleans!
We operate an all year round co-ed drop-in program every Thursday at John Braithwaite Community Centre with a quarterly break for a social night. All levels of experience and ability are welcome, even if you've never played before.

As a not-for-profit society, we hold annual Annual General Meetings (AGM) not only to celebrate our clubs successes but also to engage current and future members to discuss, organize and shape the future of the club and netball in Vancouver.

President
Light on her feet and an eye for the ball, Meaghan's defensive skills on the court is being honed on all our international events - namely the logistics that go into to US Open preparation.

“Here if you need!” is a WA’s catch phrase, and that tells you everything you need to know about Mary. Back on the board, our former and fierce leader is always in the mix of it all, both locally and internationally.
ALEX GRAY

Keeping score and Team Comets ahead of every game is Alex. He is as multi-talented on the court whether it be filling the center court, scoring some long shots or intercepting at crucial moments.
SARAH ELKINS
Secretary
You'll often find Sarah in the shooting circle but don't be fooled. Just like any good secretary, she is a well rounded player and also brings a killer defensive game as well,
ALICE HASSETT
Director - Events (Local)
Whether GD or GS, no matter which position, whenever Alice take the court, you can expect she gives it her all. She's is always there at the third line willing to take an emergency backwards pass. She'll be leading and organizing Comets for all local tournaments.
SHANNON BALDEO
Director - Events (Abroad)
As the longest standing member of Comets, Shannon has been a constant source of friendliness and calm for the club. She is the quintessential center court player that doesn’t need to be in the limelight but makes a very meaningful and lasting impact on and off court.
LUCY MERCER
Director - Communications
You won’t find a better communicator than this wonderful human. Lucy is regularly encouraging and applauding her teammates (and her opponents) for always doing their best with a smile, so who better to communicate what every Comet needs to know? - tournaments? trainings?
KEVAR MCCALLA
Director - Training
Kev is a fitness fanatic. He bring all the energy to every netball session. Along with some other fellow Comets, he has us running drills to get us all tournament ready. The best part of each training is our "Cool Down with Kev" stretch sessions.
ROMONE BUCHANAN
Director - Fundraising
The long bomb specialist, Romone is every coaches dream - shooting from anywhere in the circle and with accuracy. Bringing his signature Jamaican style to Vancouver Comets, each and every training session brings something new.

Umpires! Umpires! Umpires! We never want to do it but we know it needs to be done. BC Netball's Volunteer 2023 of the year is leading the charge to get us more acquainted with the whistle.
GAVIN WATTS
New Player Manager
At Comets, we help out where we can and our very own MVP all rounder is also our New Players Manager! Welcoming all Comets newcomers with a killer smile and lethal shooting!
LAURA McCOY
Social Media Manager
Chill vibes is synonymous with Laura. She’ll be the first to greet you with a huge smile and ask you "how are you doing?". Laura is the friendliest, happiest and supportive teammate/friend you’ll ever encounter on the netball court.
DEB WONG
Website Manager
You'll find Deb at the defensive end intercepting during one quarter, then at the offensive end shooting goals another. You'll struggle to find a more versatile player than her and she brings her versatility to Comets with her evolving website skills.
